An excellent, much-needed book. Davis has included nearly every facet of the problems associated with our country's housing problem, from redlining neighborhoods to mainstreaming of the mentally ill, and she addresses causes and effects that help answer many questions of even informed readers. The processes through which our housing crisis has developed are all definitively indicted. Yet nearly one-third of the book examines the history of solutions and the prospects for more creative possibilities. Davis' book makes a superb partner for Kosof's Homeless in America (Watts, 1988).
