Children's Literature - Danielle Williams

Greece's rich culture and history have helped shape western civilization and had a major impact on the history and development of culture and society throughout the Middle East. Greece's history is as rich as its culture, and the political system developed by the Greeks has been the basis for political systems established throughout the world. In addition, Grecian art and architecture has had a lasting influence on subsequent civilizations and continues to influence arts and artists today. The depth of Greece's influence throughout history is difficult to measure and equally as difficult to summarize in a short book, yet Newman has done an adequate job of stressing the importance of Greece's influence as well as hitting the major turning points throughout Greece's history. Illustrations and brief asides add depth and focus on major influences to Greek society. A brief table of statistics, a list of additional sources to consult and a glossary are included at the end of the text. Reviewer: Danielle Williams
