Doody Review Services

Reviewer:Allen D. Seftel, MD(Case Western Reserve University)
Description:This unique book covers multiple areas of andrology not usually covered in one publication, making this book exciting, interesting and unusual. Significant segments are devoted to dermatologic disorders, which is a refreshing addition to an andrology textbook.
Purpose:This book was conceived to address andrology, defined by the main authors as the medical practice of disorders that affect men. These objectives are quite worthy and rather unique in that it gathers a rather broad scope of topics under the andrology heading. This comprehensive book does meet the objectives.
Audience:While not stated by the lead authors, this book is best suited for clinicians with some experience in the area of andrology. It might be a bit beyond medical students or house officers. Chapter authors are noted experts in their respective fields.
Features:BPH, dermatology, testicular cancer, prostate cancer, hormones, spermatogenesis, fertility, erectile dysfunction, ejaculation, and gynecomastia, to name a few, are covered, and covered in depth. The best feature of the book is that it includes all these topics. This is extremely valuable to those who practice "andrology." However, it is short on photos and line drawings.
Assessment:To my knowledge, there are no similar books, making this one quite unique. A second edition might be helpful with additional photos, line drawings, and graphs. I would survey the readership to determine what other areas might be lacking, as well.
