From The Critics

Reviewer: Raj Tummala, MD(Wyeth Pharmaceuticals)
Description: This is a very practical manual written in an easy to read format of questions and answers covering one of the most difficult and prevalent problems in modern medicine. The author has done a wonderful job of explaining anxiety in a practical and logical manner.
Purpose: Anxiety is a very difficult problem that has a high comorbidity with medical illnesses. It is poorly understood and as a result, difficult to treat. The purpose of this book is to help general practitioners and other medical professionals understand anxiety. The book's primary value is that the question-and-answer format allows readers to focus on the topics that are of interest. The author seems to have covered every conceivable question about anxiety, answering them using a practical and realistic approach.
Audience: This book is targeted at anyone dealing with patients suffering with anxiety disorders - general practitioners, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Features: Neatly divided into nine sections, the book covers every aspect of anxiety including signs and symptoms, diagnosis, etiology, treatment, and prognosis. Each section has a table of all the questions that are covered so that the reader can simply refer to the questions that are of interest. Questions are answered in nontechnical language, but with a medical emphasis. Important information is highlighted in tables and charts. Each chapter ends with commonly asked patient questions. The last section has seven case vignettes that provide clinicians with real world scenarios. The book ends with a useful appendix that lists all the pertinent Internet sites for further information.
Assessment: This well written book covers every possible question about anxiety disorders that general practitioners may have in their practice. It does a wonderful job of presenting a vague and difficult to understand topic in an understandable and logical way.
