Reviewer:Nicholas Greco IV, MS, BCETS, CATSM(Abbott Laboratories)
Description:This book answers the call for a complete, structured, and well-organized source for anxiety assessment instruments. This is the second volume in the series.
Purpose:The purpose is to provide clinicians with a thorough resource that includes reviews of more than 200 instruments for measuring anxiety including self-report and clinician-administered scales. All of these measures have demonstrated utility for measuring the presence and severity of anxiety. These are highly worthy objectives, and the author undeniably meets these.
Audience:Intended mainly for mental health practitioners who assess and treat patients with anxiety disorders, this book will serve researchers and educators alike. The contributing authors are highly credible in the field of mental health, refreshingly knowledgable, and empirically based.
Features:This book covers the main instruments for assessing panic disorder and agoraphobia, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, acute stress disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, specific phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and anxiety instruments whcih do not emphasize specific disorders. The appendixes have quick-view guides of various instruments by disorder and an impressive reprinting of the 75 most popular anxiety assessment instruments.
Assessment:Clearly an impressive display of seasoned clinicians and researchers who have put together one of the finest books that I have had the pleasure to review. Clinicians now have a complete source for anxiety assessment information. In teaching and in research alone this book is easily worth a place on my shelf.
