Children's Literature - Greg M. Romaneck

Arkansas has been the birthplace of several fascinating Americans. President Bill Clinton was born in Hope in 1946 and went on to become both the governor of his home state and the U.S. Chief Executive. Country singer Johnny Cash was born in 1932 in Kingsland and went on to a long and storied career as an entertainer. Douglas MacArthur, who led the American forces to victory in the Pacific Theater of Operations in WWII, was born on an Army post in Little Rock in 1880. It is people such as these individuals who have contributed to Arkansas' being one of the proud 50 states. The story of this southern state is told in this compact illustrated chapter in the "It's My State" series. Throughout this informative text readers are given a glimpse into the people, places, and things that make up Arkansas. Particular emphasis is given to the historical saga of Arkansans as well as future trends in this state. Illustrations are included to highlight historical events, natural beauty and the people of this region. Taken as a whole Arkansas is a useful introduction to this southern state, its people and the material resources that are encompassed within its borders. Reviewer: Greg M. Romaneck
