Overview

Keeping the specific needs of artists in mind, each beautiful Artist's Photo Reference book is filled with vibrant, high-quality photographs shot from several different angles to provide a full range of perspectives and details.

In Birds, each bird species is shown in a large primary photo, with additional photos showing a variety of angles and poses; close-ups of feathers, feet and other details; and the bird in its natural habitat. Key information on habitat, feeding, physical characteristics and other helpful facts are included to help artists create accurate works of art. Four step-by-step demonstrations show how to use reference photos to paint beautiful birds.

Even the most experienced plein-air artist will, at times, benefit from encyclopedic photo collections like this one as well as Rulon's Artist's Photo Reference: Birds and Gary Greene's Artist's Photo Reference Guide to Flowers and Artist's Photo Reference: Buildings & Barns. Here, hundreds of photos cover crashing waves, tide pools, streams, lakes, marshes, snow, ice, frost, sunrises and sunsets, fog and mist, and storms. The book begins with a good session on how artists can take their own reference photos. Moreover, Rulon includes six step-by-step demonstrations by a variety of artists painting from photos in the book. Rulon, a highly successful wildlife and landscape artist, lives on Whidbey Island in Washington's Puget Sound, surrounded by constantly changing waters and skies. Highly recommended for all collections Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
