Gr 6 UpBoth authors approach their subjects in similar fashion, primarily focusing on how each condition or disease relates to youngsters. Short, easy-to-read sections outline the types, symptoms, and treatments for both disorders. Personal narratives of various young people living with the conditions are scattered throughout. Charts and lists explicate and summarize some of the information. Peer, family, and school relationships and problems are discussed. Black-and-white photographs and the judicious placement of bold-faced headings and boxed information help break up the texts. Diabetes concludes with a discussion about independence, self care, and hope for a cure. Attention Deficit Disorder ends with a chapter about positive self-esteem and gives examples of young people who have developed positive feelings about themselves by pursuing the activities they enjoy. These two books are useful for anyone needing basic information and especially helpful for reports.Lois McCulley, Wichita Falls High School, TX
