Description: This text is designed to assist readers in their quest to understand patient management in orthopedics. The vast coverage of multiple disorders enhances each reader's ability to comprehend a rudimentary understanding of a variety of subjects.
Purpose: The author has made a decision to split the realm of orthopedics and rheumatology for physiotherapists. The endeavor to illustrate disorders associated with orthopedics results in a text which covers a variety of subjects without sacrificing content.
Audience: The book was written for an honors-level undergraduate or newly qualified physiotherapist. The book holds particular interest for those focused in the patient environment which demands effective use of resources without compromising quality of care.
Features: The text covers a wide variety of orthopedic subjects. The general information provided about bone and joint pathology helps emphasize the necessity of a basic understanding of joint pathology. Orthopedic disorders, specifically those associated with surgical repairs are also covered. Excellent diagrams, illustrations, and charts are utilized, and all enhance the effectiveness of the text.
Assessment: This text does an excellent job of supplying the reader with an understanding of orthopedic disorders and their surgical corrections. The x-ray illustrations are excellent as are the chapters associated with general orthopedic pathology. The sections on reconditioning postsurgically nicely illustrate rudimentary exercises. However, they lack functional and dynamic retraining. Overall, this book will help readers understand orthopedic disorders, but the sections on pediatric and neurological issues are better served in a separate text.
