Gr 7 Up-The history and complexities of the dance world are clearly revealed in these well-written texts. In Modern Dance, Anderson describes the work and vision of the major personalities who challenged the traditional form from Isadora Duncan to Mark Morris. A number of comments by choreographers and dancers provide additional insight into the artistry of others. Rinaldi's title covers the beginnings of ballet in Europe through the romantic period to the Balanchine era to the present-day scene with numerous "crossover" dances and companies as evidenced in the work of Jerome Robbins and Twyla Tharp, and the Joffrey Ballet and the White Oak Dance Project. Final chapters in each book describe in detail a typical class. Quality black-and-white archival and full-color photos accompany both texts. These engaging volumes are rich in information and make fine additions to any collection.-Carol Schene, Taunton Public Schools, MA Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
