Children's Literature - Heidi Quist

Olson provides basic knitting instructions and patterns for a few simple crafts young girls might enjoy, including cute wearables such as belts, headbands, scarves, purses, bookmarks, and washcloths. The book is well organized, with a gradual progression of the crafts as the student learns new stitches. The back matter includes fun facts, a glossary and an index. Unfortunately, the basic instructions even for casting on are complicated and confusing, and the pictures do not always accurately portray the patterns the student is putting into practice for the particular project, which could lead to more confusion. The brightly colored pictures and practical crafts for young girls will appeal, however, to those who have someone who can sit down and teach them basic knitting stitches.
