Synopsis

It's a race against time!

Abigail and her friends can't believe it — Babs Magee has finally convinced someone to quit, and that someone is Benjamin Franklin! Babs is making a terrible mess of history, and it's up to the third-grade time-travelers to put things right.

But no matter how far back the kids go, Babs is always one step ahead of them. Will they be able to find Ben and stop Babs in time to save history?

Children's Literature

Mr. Caruthers' social studies class is about to undertake the fascinating task of learning about one of America's most recognizable historical figures: Benjamin Franklin. The only problem is that when they open their books to begin, he is not there, not anywhere. Abigail, Jacob, Zack, and Bo know that the evil Babs McGee is behind this history hiccup and it is up to them to make it right. They must use Mr. Caruthers' time travel device and travel back through history to try to return things to normal. When they first arrive in the past, in Philadelphia in 1776, they cannot find Ben anywhere. They soon discover that Babs has beaten them there and to every important event in Ben's life and claimed his work as her own. Working together, they continue to time travel backwards through Ben's life to try to find pivotal moments where they can beat Babs McGee and convince young Ben of what his life's path should be. This is a lighthearted but informational look at a very important historical figure and could easily be used as an introduction to a unit study. It could also very well motivate the unmotivated or be included as an easy-to-read resource in a unit study. The book includes a letter to the readers from the authors distinguishing fact from fiction and a Benjamin Franklin time line. Part of the "Blast to the Past" series.
