Children's Literature - Kathleen Karr

Part of the "Notorious Americans and their Times" series, this offering takes on the man most of us love to hate. Was Arnold truly the American Judas? King's biography is admirably fair. He builds a believable picture of the patriot/hero/general who is thwarted by pride and high-living. A few little-known notes are added to the portrait, particularly Arnold's post-treason career as first a British general who raided the American South, and later as a privateer against the French. King has interwoven Arnold's life with the birth of the American Republic, and the end result is a very readable introduction to the history of the American Revolution.
