Children's Literature

Using photographs of Caterpillar vehicles, kids can look at these big machines and push the corresponding symbol to produce a noise appropriate to the action (there are symbols that match the sound buttons inserted in the text). For example, a demolition team is getting ready to demolish an old building. Readers are invited to blown the horn (push the horn button), raise the boom (push the button with the up and down arrows) and finally depress the button with the sound of the building being torn apart. In addition to the building, kids can tear up a concrete slab, clean up debris, work with a mass excavator and an articulated truck. It is a fun learning experience and if the noise doesn't drive adults crazy it will probably be one that kids will want to read over and over until the batteries wear out. If paired with Big Trucks and Digger—Touch and Feel kids and adults will at least know what an articulated truck does. 2004, Chronicle, Ages 3 mo. to 4.
