Black cultures and race relations

The essays in this book examine black cultural issues from the inside out, rather than from a majority perspective. Topics are grouped into four categories: historical studies on race; policy, economics, and race; educational studies and race; and social and cultural studies on race. Readers of this volume will gain a deeper understanding of the past and present realities experienced by black people in the United States. Sweeping changes have taken place in American society, but much work remains to be done before black Americans will no longer face the daily challenges created by racist stereotyping and assumptions.
