Synopsis
Twenty-four historians examine particular topics related to America's war with Vietnam, both in terms of the war itself and in terms of the domestic ramifications the war had on the United States. Presented by Young (history, New York U.) and Buzzanco (history, U. of Houston), the papers address traditional concerns such as presidential planning, as well as newer concerns such as the intersections of race, gender, and class among Vietnamese and Americans. Other topics include the impact of the morale of the South Vietnamese army, the character and impact of the antiwar movement, and the changing rhetoric surrounding prisoners of war and missing in action.
