Synopsis

Text and photographs portray Brazil's geography and climate, city and rural life, industry, and transportation, focusing especially on the Amazon and the people and animals ...

Anne Marie Pace <%ISBN%>0778793389 - Children's Literature

As a companion to Brazil the People and Brazil the Culture, clear, colorful photographs and maps illustrate this slim book about Brazil's geography, part of the "Lands, Peoples and Cultures Series." Content includes Brazil's place in South America, the topography, climate, cities, economy, animal life, and the Amazon River. The text is interesting and well written. Pertinent history is worked into the text, although history is not the focus of the book. Some attention is paid to the destruction of the rain forests and the effects on the Brazilian economy, people and wildlife. Back matter includes a glossary and a brief index. Unfortunately the book lacks a pronunciation key for the Portuguese and Tupi words that dot the text. This volume, along with its two companions, serves as a brief but fascinating introduction to the land of Brazil, probably sufficient for some elementary school and most middle school research projects. 2003, Crabtree Publishing Company,
