Overview
This text was the first edited collection on the burgeoning history of the early modern Atlantic world and has had a huge impact on the many fields of Atlantic Studies. This second edition features two new essays on science and global history respectively, as well as a revised Introduction and updated guides to further reading.
Synopsis
The eleven papers of this volume were originally presented at a workshop held in September 2001 by the International Seminar on the History of the Atlantic World at Harvard U. in Cambridge, Mass. The contributors are senior scholars (including two who are emeriti) who teach history in the US and the UK. Rather than specific case studies, the essays address broad subjects to provide a thought- provoking overview of many issues. The topics include migration, economy, religion, class, gender, and race. Editorials
From the Publisher
"The British Atlantic World will retain its leading place in the field in the wake of this new edition, and will remain an essential starting-point for undergraduate readers. It is still the only work that provides through its individual essays a readily accessible, well-conceived thematic overview."
-- Keith Mason, University of Liverpool, UK "[T]he contributors have produced insightful overviews of topics deemed central to any serious investigation of Atlantic history." βKathleen Wilson, SUNY Stony Brook
