Children's Literature -
In the rain forest biome, there are many animals, some diurnal and some nocturnal. Young preschoolers are introduced to some of the many different animals that reside in the active rain forest. There are brightly colored illustrations of animals in action during the day and night. Look for spider monkeys leaping, macaws squawking, and fruit bats flying. Caregivers may find some helpful tips on the last page of the book where there is brief information about the concepts along with some ideas on how to support and engage young children as they begin to build on their understanding of the rain forest and the nocturnal and diurnal animals. This book makes a wonderful addition to a study unit; however, there are no additional resources or websites listed. Teachers may wish to include photographs of the animals in a study unit so that children can see what the animals look like. This book is part of the "Rookie Preschool: Rookie Learn About Nature" series which covers many different topics for preschool children. Early childhood consultants reviewed the series.
