Overview

This new volume in the "Requisites in Anesthesiology" series delivers succinct, yet comprehensive, clinically oriented coverage of cardiac and vascular anesthesia. It explores everything from the pathophysiology of the various cardiovascular conditions, through their clinical implications and surgical management, to the relevant monitoring, anesthesia procedures, and phar-macology. Practical, "high-yield" content makes this book ideal as a refresher for certification or recertification, and as a reference for everyday clinical practice.

• Delivers in-depth guidance on trans-esopha-geal echocardiography (TEE) · pacemaker and ventricular assist devices · cardiopulmonary bypass machines · pharmacological interventions · off-pump CABG · vascular operations · heart/lung transplantation · and many other "hot topics" in the field.

• Presents information in a bulleted format for quick, efficient reference.

• Uses specially designed boxes to display key data on intraoperative monitoring · key clinical caveats · advantages and disadvantages of various drugs, monitoring approaches, and techniques · current controversies · case studies · and more—all at a glance.

• Features more than 245 illustrations that clarify key aspects of pathophysiology, monitoring, and anesthesia administration.

With 15 additional contributors.

Reviewer:David B. Glick, MD, MBA(University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine)
Description:This is an easy to read how-to book covering the anesthetic techniques for most cardiac and vascular operations.
Purpose:The purpose is to provide practicing anesthesiologists with the latest evidence-based management for cardiac and vascular anesthesia. The authors meet this challenge and deliver a very up-to-date summary of cardiac and vascular anesthesia care. The chapters are comprehensive, but easy to read.
Audience:It is written to serve both as a refresher and reference for the anesthesia practitioner. I expect that students and residents in both anesthesia and cardiovascular surgery will also find the book to be an extremely useful introduction to the intricate management of these challenging patients.
Features:The book covers the perioperative management of cardiac surgery patients (adult and pediatric) and patients undergoing vascular surgery. All of the chapters are clearly written and appropriately illustrated. The summary boxes that are used liberally throughout the book make the key considerations/concerns of each procedure easy to identify and remember.
Assessment:This is the most concise and clearly written coverage of this complex subject that I have read. Each chapter stands on its own and covers its topic completely in about 20 pages.
