Reviewer:Robert C Lichtenberg, MD(Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine)
Description:This pocket-sized book covers the general cardiology topics that are seen on an inpatient consult service. It covers fundamental concepts of physiology, pathophysiology, physical diagnosis and treatment.
Purpose:It is not meant to be a comprehensive review of heart disease, but rather an organized review of common cardiac topics. This is a worthy objective and it is met.
Audience:The book is intended for medical students and house officers and serves as a minimum core curriculum for teachers on inpatient cardiac services.
Features:Six common cardiac disorders are covered: CHF, valvular heart disease, dyslipidemia, angina, MI, and arrhythmias. The book is current and well written with appropriate figures and tables.
Assessment:The book is a reasonable size to cover on the typical one month service rotations and serves as core content for inpatient services with students or residents.
