Children's Literature
Caves are among the most fascinating wonders of the world, and the ten chosen in this book are certainly worthy contenders for top honors. Lots of statistics are given for each: the longest (Mammoth); the prettiest (Blue Grotto); the biggest chamber (Sarawak), etc. The caves are also set within their territorial and historical contexts, with maps and an added glossary. It's a decent introduction for youngsters, yet it doesn't quite transmit the awe of watching half a million bats burst from the huge mouth of Carlsbad at dusk each evening, or the curious tingly feeling of closeness one feels to our artistically creative ancestors while wandering through the prehistoric art caves of France. It's a beginning.
