Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot

DK always manages to come up with something new and this fold out floor book is a pretty good idea. As the book unfolds, questions are posed. The photographs of real animals have been "doctored" to add amusing new elements. In this case the question is "Where does a chick come from? The picture shows a chick with a backpack looking at a road sign. When the next page is unfolded it shows a brown egg just beginning to be pecked open-that is where a chick comes from. The book unfolds into a large display that can rest on the floor or a table. In the center is a photograph of a real hen, accompanied by all of the other real chick pictures and factual statements. Due to the construction of the book all of the other images and questions on the reverse are not right reading (most are). Young kids will enjoy the pictures and the challenge of folding and unfolding the book. Also in the series are Bunny, Lamb, and Pig.
