Children's Literature

Chihuahua: Senor Tiny is part of the "Little Dogs Rock!" series of books by Bearport Publishing geared to the 7- to 12-year-old child interested in learning more about small dog breeds. The book is filled with a variety of interesting chapters including "Little Dog, Big Hero," which describes the true story of a Chihuahua named "Zoey" who saved a little boy from a snake bite. "A Dog of Ancient Mexico" describes the Chihuahua's early history; "Becoming a Big Name" and "Star Quality" chapters describe the breed's increased popularity. "Coats of Many Colors" and" Handle With Care" describe the Chihuahua's fur and its need for protection from injury and predators due to its small size. A mix of large photographs and illustrations blend with the large-print text. This book may be a good starting point for the child considering adding a Chihuahua to the family. It includes a range of important discussion topics for would-be Chihuahua owners including health related issues featured in "Learning to Get Along." The final pages featuring "Chihuahuas at a Glance" and "Best in Show" give basic details on life expectancy, weight, personality, and even the things a judge would look for in the dog show ring. The 20-word glossary includes many words that are not directly related to the Chihuahua. The bibliography, "Read More" section, and "Learn More Online" pages offer opportunities for further study and research and may require assistance.
