Children's Literature

An adorable little bunny bounces all over, meeting other animals and exploring the world. In this simple foam board book, bright, jewel-toned illustrations engage babies and toddlers in the brief tale of a cute bunny. The illustrations show the animals in realistic colors, but on various pages the sky is yellow and the ground is purple. Accuracy is definitely not the goal. The text is simple but also explores concepts that help babies and toddlers develop language. The bunny explores a stream, trees, and a field, meeting fish, birds, hens, and other bunnies. These useful vocabulary words are joined with sound words such as "splash" and "boing." Animal sounds, constants of early vocabulary, are also found on nearly every page. As a bonus, the book is made with a handle on one side and the pages "clack" together when shaken, making the book also a toy for small hands. This handle will also allow parents to attach the book to a ribbon or hook it onto a stroller. Reviewer: Kristina Cassidy
