Reviewer: Alan Micco, M.D.(Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine)Description: This is a needed update of a well structured review of clinical otologic issues that includes sections on basic science and rehabilitation.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a complete reference for clinical otologic problems with the most current information in this ever changing and advancing field. The authors and editors easily meet their objectives.
Audience: This book is intended for anyone involved in otolaryngology, from the first year resident to the seasoned otologist. It also would be useful for those in other medical specialties as a reference to use with their patients who might develop otologic disease. The world-renowned editors have assembled a who's who of contributing authors.
Features: Using the same format as the previous edition, this book has four sections covering basic science, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation. It exhaustively covers every otologic problem. The updated information reflects the amount of new material being generated in this area. While not a surgical atlas, the book's images are of superb quality. The references are up to date.
Assessment: This is obviously a very useful book for individuals who manage and treat patients with otologic disease. This has become one of the "new" classic texts in otology. This updated edition was not only needed, but also welcome!
