School Library Journal
Gr 2-4-Slim historical overviews that detail aspects of daily life from ancient times through the 20th century. Each book includes one-to-three paragraphs of information per page along with several clear, color photographs, reproductions, or drawings. Cooking tells how food storage, meal preparation, utensils, and dining fashions have evolved over time. Toys discusses how children amused themselves in the past and more recently, and includes photographs of artifacts and popular toys, including fad items. Keeping Clean details the history of bathing techniques (including hair and teeth care) and equipment. Each volume includes a craft or activity idea. These highly visual titles are easier to read than Bobbie Kalman's "Historic Communities" series (Crabtree) and will be additional purchases for most libraries.-Gayle Modrall, Presbyterian School, Houston, TX Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.|Book Details
