Children's Literature
Children must learn to cooperate in order to function well in society. This book is a good, straightforward guide to being cooperative. Many real-life situations are presented to explain how cooperation is important. Family activities that benefit from cooperation include raking leaves and doing dishes. Playing on a team requires cooperating with the other members. Being an actor in a play or a musician in a band demands cooperation so that the final product is the very best. Thomas Jefferson is introduced as a role model of cooperation. When he wrote the Declaration of Independence, he had to include the ideas of many people in the document. He worked with others to make sure that the document would be just right. A final reflection is provided for the reader to consider how cooperative he/she has been that day. Suggestions are offered for how to work for cooperation in daily life. A glossary, index, and additional resources are included, as well as a note to parents and teachers about how to use the book. Part of the "Wonder Books" series. 2003, The Child's World, Ages 5 to 8.β Carol E. Lynch
