Children's Literature

This "You and Me" selection in the "Read and Learn" series lets children explore the concept of helpingβ€”where to help, who to help, how to help, and the sensory clues to helping. Children are shown helping parents do dishes or mop the floor, helping siblings tie shoes, planting in the neighborhood, and helping someone else feel happy. The text suggests "Thank you" and "You're welcome" as things children may hear when they help, although they are just as likely to hear the ungracious "No problem" in some venues. Photographs in this series include a wonderful diversity of people. An ending quiz, a picture glossary, and a small index help readers become familiar with nonfiction text and some of its conventions. In addition, the layout of the text encourages new readers to tackle the books in this nicely done series with real success. 2004, Heinemann Library, Ages 3 to 6.
