Gr 3-5-- Beautiful color photographs of ocean inhabitants in their natural settings are accompanied by brief explanatory notes on their special characteristics. Familiar animals such as hermit crabs, flounder, and puffer fish are featured, but in unusual ways, e.g., only the two protruding eyes of the bottom-dwelling flounder show through the white sand. Fine also introduces such odd creatures as the bristle worm, crocodile fish, batfish, boxfish, and more. His brilliant photographs are strikingly clear and make the underwater world as close and familiar as the backyard. The text is brief, making this mainly an appealing browsing book. --Frances E.
