Purebred cats such as the Abyssinian, Bengal, sphinx, and caracal are among the ten breeds explained in this book. Deciding whether a purebred cat is right for you is a decision not to be made lightly. In fact, deciding to own a cat at all is a big responsibility. Most cats are not as loyal and devoted as dogs and each cat breed varies slightly in temperament and personality. To help the reader make their decision this book provides information about the special feeding, housing, and grooming needs of the breeds mentioned. Information on the training of these cats as well as their origin and estimated cost, is also given. Each chapter is about four pages in length and that includes a half size color photograph of the cat along with interesting "fast facts" and a list of Internet resources. The appendix consists of an index and a list of recommended sources for further information. This book is a good choice for anyone with a general interest in cats and an excellent source for those seeking facts on the purebred variety. It is part of the "What a Pet!" series. 2003, Twenty-First Century Books /Millbrook Press, Ages 10 up.β Denise Daley
