Gr 1-3Children will be attracted to these books that have large, easy-to-read print and a full-page, full-color, captioned photograph on the facing page. Each book also has a table of contents, a glossary, and a simple index, all excellent features to help children learn to use nonfiction effectively. The writing is clear with pronunciations following new or technical words. Beef describes where and how North American beef cattle are raised, slaughtered, processed, and marketed. Dairy Products tells where and how dairy cattle are raised in this country, and explains how various dairy products are processed. Poultry describes the favorite birds raised in North America and some European countries, noting a few variations. Cooper offers simple descriptions of how poultry is raised as well as information on processing and marketing.
