School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 1 Carrick attempts to provide an elementary version of the dairy industry. The soft muted colors of the watercolor illustrations are visually appealing, although a sharp contrast to the bright, vivid colors of Gail Gibbons' The Milk Makers (Macmillan, 1985). The text, which is simple enough for the very youngest readers, is marred by oversimplification, over-generalization and the lack of any textual definitions or glossary. This title is acceptable for answering the ``Where does milk come from?'' question from the very young. However, libraries in need of factual information on this level will find The Milk Makers to be a better choice. Eldon Younce, Harper Elementary School, Kans.
