There are five members of the deer family: elk, moose, mule deer, white-tailed deer and caribou. We see where they live, learn why they migrate and what kinds of food they eat. Baby deer are left alone for two weeks after they are born, being scentless, they are safer alone than with their mothers. The mothers watch from a distance and come back to feed the babies often. Interesting deer facts are included as sidebars. One such interesting tidbit is that in less than one week a baby deer can run faster than a human. Each spread covers a pertinent area of interest and all are beautifully documented with animals, habitats, maps and even footprints.
