Overview

Dialysis amyloidosis is a syndrome observed in dialysis patients characterized initially by joint pain, followed later by joint destruction. At present, development of this syndrome is one of the few complications in these patients. The factors involved in the genesis of this syndrome are not yet known with certainty and there is as yet no proven efficacious treatment other than renal transplantation. As a result, the interest in this topic among nephrologists remains very high.
This book respond to this interest by providing general information on the pathophysiology and clinical aspects of all types of amyloidosis. The recently discovered B2 type of dialysis amyloidosis, a serious complication which affects patients suffering from chronic renal failure,is fully covered from the clinical and pathological features to the physiological and pathophysiological aspects. This book will give nephrologists and rheumatologists a clear understanding of the dialysis amyloidosis syndrome as well as making a valuable contribution to identifying strategies for treatment and prevention. _

The book contains black-and-white illustrations.

This book is an extensive overview of a newly described illness/arthropathy seen in dialysis patients. "This book has no preface, but one can assume the purpose of it is to have one source in which to discuss in detail the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of 82-microglobulin amyloidosis. Whenever a new entity is described, a wealth of literature and studies will follow; therefore, a detailed review in one concise volume is much needed. These objectives are met in this book. "According to the author, this book is primarily written for nephrologists and clinical immunologists. I believe it is also useful for anyone who cares for dialysis patients and for rheumatologists and orthopedists who may need to be updated on this newly described arthropathy. The editors and authors of this book are international authorities in the field. "This book contains excellent radiographs that are very useful to practicing clinicians. The references are appropriate and relatively recent. The index is extensive and the table of contents is very well organized. The appearance is elegant and sturdy. A unique feature of this book is the quality and quantity of the radiographs and other diagnostic tests. "This is an excellent book. It covers extensively the entity of dialysis associated B2-microglobulin amyloidosis. The authors are authorities in the field, and the organization of the book is superb. This book has many practical and clinically oriented chapters that would help clinicians caring for dialysis patients. This was accomplished without neglecting the importance and complexity of the pathogenesis of amyloidosis. I believe this book should be available in medical libraries and in everydialysis unit. Also, orthopedists and rheumatologists should have access to it.
