Children's Literature - Trina Heidt

As part of the "Monster Chronicles" series, this book focuses on the mythical dragon as part of the story telling traditions found around the world. From the earliest written histories to today's movie portrayals, this book offers readers a quick and condensed lesson about the legends of dragons that are found in virtually every culture. Included are some short stories comparing and describing the role of the dragon in ancient cultures, descriptions of dragons (characteristics, size, shape, and color) and even a mention of real-life dragons. Also included are some enticing bits about dragons in myths and the modernization of this immortal creature. This book offers an interesting overview and is enough to whet ones appetite for dragons but it is by no means a complete reference source for all things dragon. It does, however, include a bibliography and an excellent long list of further reading resources, website addresses, and movies. This book is recommended for beginning dragon fans but is not likely to offer much information that is new to dragon devotees.
