The yucky-cool world of insects comes to life with accurate drawings, clear instructions, and scientific information about this amazing part of every ecosystem. Perfect for school projects, this title also satisfies youngsters' need to understand and explore the natural world.

Children's Literature

Though less humorous than Ed Emberly's cartooning guides, this book is well organized for the budding insect enthusiast. For anyone who likes bugs, these scientifically inspired drawings prompt a closer look at their intricate construction. The actual-size images for each insect also put the creatures in helpful perspective.

School Library Journal

Gr 4-8Step-by-step drawing lessons for over 80 insects and other creepy crawlies such as millipedes, ticks, and spiders are featured in this carefully constructed drawing book. All of the examples are done in pencil. A discussion of materials needed is included in the preface. Readers are invited to observe the drawings before starting and are given specific written instructions. Basic information such as the order and family of each creature and where it may be found is provided. This additional material makes this book more useful for both observations of insects and for report writing than other titles currently available. It's more complete than Lee J. Ames's Draw 50 Creepy Crawlies (Doubleday, 1992) and more inclusive than Christine Smith's How to Draw Insects (G. Stevens, 1997).Kathryn Kosiorek, Cuyahoga County Public Library, Brooklyn, OH
