Synopsis

Animals are amazing athletes, and, wouldn't you know it, their names hint at the sports they love to play. Kids will cheer along with Quarterback Yak and Receiver Beaver, Bat Cat and Glove Dove, and Kick Chick and Goal Mole.
This companion book to the hit Truck Duck is full of energetic animals and sly details that are sure to entertain sports fans of all ages. Praise for Truck Duck:

Diane Carver Sekeres - Children's Literature

Not quite hink pinks or terse verse, but whatever you call them, they are fun. The author pairs unlikely words that rhyme to create a visually and linguistically funny book. When did you last see a roach featured in a picture book? Here it is, coach roach with clipboard in hand, er, leg. There is glove dove, who misses the catch, and finish line porcupine, who is still running with the broken tape trailing behind. Brightly-colored pages are the backgrounds for the visual puns: illustrations that are cleanly and simply drawn. It is the expressions on the animals' faces as well as the activities they are engaged in that make you smile. Each animal character, including a cat, a yak, and a kiwi, is drawn realistically, but what the artist shows the animals doing is something else. This is a book that will be welcome in the home as well as school. 2005, Putnam, Ages 4 to 8.
