Since 1933 when they began under coach Bert Bell, later NFL Commissioner, the Philadelphia Eagles have had a colorful and up-and-down existence. They have won three early NFL titles but lost two Super Bowl games. As in his Packers by the Numbers, Maxymuk (Uniform Numbers of the NFL: All-Time Rosters, Facts and Figures) casts the team's years in profiles of the players, both significant hall of famers and the lesser known, who wore the shirts. The result is that he covers over 1400 Eagles who have played, in jerseys from 1 through 99, over the last eight decades. The book is arranged in chapters by jersey number, with a particular focus on one player and lists of all players who have worn that number. He adds statistics and frequent humorous sidelights and culminates with an Eagles All-Time Roster. Maxymuk goes through the 2004 season, missing the meltdown 2005 year-studded by the many injuries and the Terrell Owens imbroglio. Good for any Philadelphia area library as well as many other sports collections supporting pro football fans.-Morey Berger, St. Joseph's Hosp.
