Preschool/primary-graders have the first-rate "Let's-Read-and-Find-Out" titles to turn to for information about their physiological selves. Among them are Paul Showers' Look At Your Eyes, Your Skin And Mine, Ears Are For Hearing. The latter provides information about the working of the ear, its role in balance and the causes of hearing loss.

A delightful book that genuinely succeeds in being informative without being boring. In clear, highly readable text, the anatomy and function of the ear is explained, detailing the mechanics of hearing, the role of the inner ear in balance, and causes of hearing loss. Keller's lively illustrations are appealing, with large, simple diagrams that detail each component of the ear, coupled with scenes of active children. There is an even representation of male and female figures, although there is no diversity of ethnic groups pictured. While there are several books available on the senses in general, this is unique in its comprehensive presentation of the subject for this age group. School librarians will want to call it to the attention of teachers as well as students, while public libraries will want it to round out their collections. --Denise L.
