Synopsis

Here is a spectacular, thought-provoking, and highly informative guide to the fascinating story of the Earth. Full-color photography of geological equipment, rocks, minerals, and 3-D models reveals the ideas and discoveries that have changed our understanding of the world in which we live.

Kris Sauer - Children's Literature

If I were in grades two to five and needed to do a report on one of the planets, I hope my teacher or librarian would point me to the "Exploring Planets" series. The books were developed using the National Science Education Standards, and the quality shows. This title flows well, with one concept and almost always an excellent photograph gracing each page. There are dozens of interesting facts about Earth—its surface is three-fourths water, it spins on its axis at more than 1,000 miles per hour—and about those who continue to research it. There is information on how to use the Internet for additional research, a science experiment, glossary, an index, a quiz and a table comparing the features of all nine planets. This is a book, and series, well worth adding to your science-focused bookshelf. 2004, Weigl Publishers Inc, Ages 7 to 11.
