Children's Literature

Written with consultant Norries Wilson, head football coach at Columbia University, this is an easy reader for young football fans. Sandler emboldens vocabulary words and provides a glossary at the end of the book. This is a biographical overview of Eli Manning as he begins playing football as the youngest son in a famous football family. Manning joins the New York Giants and has to work his way through criticism before meeting the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII in 2008. The book introduces Manning as he comes to the Giants in 2004, referencing both the lowlights and the highlights of his career in New York. The description of the 2008 season includes a short reference to the play-off games and focuses on the teamwork with Manning at quarterback, Plaxico Buress and David Tyree as receivers, and Justin Tuck as defensive end. The pictures are stunning and the insets provide additional football information regarding Manning and the Giants' season. With resources listed for additional research, this will be a good sports book to add to the elementary school library. It is part of the "Super Bowl Superstars" series.
