Erik Erikson

Erik Erikson is an important theorist who has influenced psychological thinking about childhood and its relation to society, adolescent identity, the life cycle and the nature of culture. Stevens assesses the value and particular nature of his contribution and gives an accessible exposition and analysis of his work. It provides an indispensable road map to Erikson's writings and ideas, set in the context of contemporary developments in social and cultural theorising.

RICHARD STEVENS is a senior lecturer (and former Head of Department) at The Open University. He has also taught at Trinity College, Dublin. He has published several books, including Understanding the Self (Sage 1998), and the previous editions of the Freud and Erikson titles to be included in this series. He has been Consultant Editor for Psychoanalysis for OUP's Dictionary of Psychology , is Vice-President of The Open University Psychological Society and is a founder member of the Consciousness and Experiential Section of the British Psychological Society. He has considerable television and radio experience as a former BBC drama director, and as the writer, director and presenter of several Open University programmes for BBC 2.
