A brief introduction notes the relative newness of the term "Asian American" and hopes that one day these extraordinary people will be known solely for their accomplishments and not for their background. Certainly, the accomplishments of the over 60 individuals and eight groups are worth celebrating in this smoothly written text. Some of the names, such as athletes Michelle Kwan and Tiger Woods, will be well known to students. Others, particularly the historical and political figures, may be less known; but Sinnott has told all of their stories in a compelling way, sure to be of use to anyone hoping to learn more about this subject. People of all occupations are profiled, including scientists, playwrights, musicians, architects, writers and artists. Also depicted are groups of immigrants such as the Hmong refugees from Laos and the Vietnamese boat people, whose stories are some of the most compelling. Back matter includes an index, footnotes, and suggestions for further reading. Illustrated primarily by black-and-white photographs, this book would be a helpful addition to libraries seeking to expand their collections in this area. This book is part of the "Extraordinary People" series and is a revision of the 1993 book Extraordinary Asian Pacific Americans. 2003 (orig. 1993), Children's Press,
