Fancy Nancy, hostess extraordinaire, shares her tips for tea parties (the fancier the better) in this combination cookbook, etiquette manual, and party planning guide. Nancy shares her decorating ideas (heavy on the doilies, fancy folded napkins, and jewel stickers), her recipes for iced tea, tea sandwiches, crudites, and cookies, and her ideas for games and other appropriate tea party entertainment, including flash cards for fancy phrases in Nancy's beloved French. Dividing the book based on distinctions among types of tea parties—buffet, al fresco, with dolls or without—seems a little arbitrary, but most of the book's ideas will be accessible to the target age range, with some help from an adult. Robin Preiss Glasser's exuberantly ornamented, pink-tinged artwork will be familiar to Nancy's many fans, as will the humor in Nancy's narration: "Put doilies on paper plates and—voila—they're fancy." Blank recipe cards and tips for decorating a recipe box are included at the back of the book for aspiring hostesses to start their own collection of appropriately fancy party foods.
