Children's Literature - Nicole Peterson Davis

There are various animals that live on farms. But, why do farmers keep all of these animals? How do they help farm life? Where do they live? This book answers most of these questions about animals that live on a farm including sheep, pigs, cows, horses, ducks, chickens, and goats. Additionally, there are three questions for each animal that curious students may wonder about. The questions are posed and the reader must flip the flap in order to reveal the answer. Each animal has two pages (plus a flap) to describe it. The first page is a paragraph describing basic things about the animal, and showing pictures of the animal. Then the flap in the middle contains the questions and answers. Finally, the second page contains an additional interesting fact about the animal with illustrations to depict what is happening. Some of the things on the second page include how to mark sheep, how pigs eat, types of feathers on chickens, cuts of meat, and activities enjoyed by goats. The illustrations are fairly realistic, and children will gain an understanding of various farm animals by reading this book. Reviewer: Nicole Peterson Davis
