The authors, both of whom are librarians at Pennsylvania State University, review the literature on the relatively new, but now widespread phenomenon of employees working part-time on a permanent basis, either by choice or necessity. The longest (44-page) chapter, on telecommuting, discusses definitions of the term then summarizes findings from nearly 100 articles in a clearly structured, subject arranged narrative. Other chapters review the literature on scheduling options and the future of workplace flexibility, profile various companies, and present resources and strategies for locating additional information. CHRISTINE AVERY has been a librarian at Pennsylvania State University since 1990. She is currently the head of the Commonwealth College Libraries, which comprise the libraries at 12 Penn State branches. Prior to this she served as a social science librarian and a business librarian at Penn State. She is the co-author (with Diane Zabel) of The Quality Management Sourcebook: An International Guide to Materials and Resources (1997).
