Forensic science is becoming more commonly used and for a greater variety of reasons. New research is making DNA analysis more available for criminal investigations, paternity testing, and other studies. There are many kinds of DNA analysis, all of which are fairly complex. Koblinsky, Levine, and Margolis-Nunno have all obtained their Ph.D.s and are very experienced in the field of forensic science. They are the authors of multiple other books on the subject, including Forensic Anthropology, Forensic Medicine, and The Forensic Aspects of Poisons. This book attempts to teach readers about forensic DNA analysis. Background science is given in the first several chapters, diagrams are included throughout the book, and real-life applications are scattered throughout. Because of the complexity of the subject matter, the reading level is fairly high. The writers attempt to give readers a simplistic understanding of general biology in the first several chapters; however, in order to understand the discussions and information throughout this book, prior knowledge of biology is necessary. This book is well written and beautifully put together, but due to the advanced subject matter it would only be appropriate for adults or very advanced children.
