Overview

  • Frommer's Ireland features gorgeous color photos of the sights and experiences that await you.
  • London-based husband and wife team, Christi Daugherty and Jack Jewers, have been exploring the back roads of their ancestral homeland, Ireland, for years. They'll tell you the smartest way to experience major attractions such as Giant's Causeway, Newgrange, and Skellig Michael, but they'll also clue you into dazzling country roads, prehistoric ruins without signage scattered in farm fields, and lively little music bars where most of the regulars speak Gaelic.
  • They’ve checked out the best hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, and pubs in person, and their authoritative, candid reviews will help you make choices that suit your tastes and budget.
  • From popular tourist destinations such as Dublin and the Ring of Kerry to less-trammeled regions such as Donegal and the North, Ireland will be more accessible and richer for visitors who follow our authors’ seasoned, perceptive, and adventurous suggestions.
  • You'll also get up-to-the-minute coverage of shopping and nightlife in cities and towns; detailed walking tours; lively coverage of history and culture; accurate neighborhood maps; and advice on planning a successful family vacation.
  • Frommer's Ireland also includes a color fold-out map.

About the Author, Christi Daugherty

Christi Daugherty is an expat American. A former journalist, she's the author of several travel books including Frommer's Paris Day by Day. She also co-wrote Frommer's MTV Ireland and Frommer's MTV Europe. She learned everything she knows about Ireland accidentally, while getting lost repeatedly over the course of many years. She likes to think that she gets lost so you don't have to. These days she and her husband and co-writer Jack Jewers spend their spare time traveling around Ireland (she drives, he navigates) looking for new places to explore. She spends whatever time is left over writing unpublished mystery novels.

Jack Jewers has directed films for the BBC, reviewed publications for Time Out, and contributed to several guidebooks, including previous editions of Frommer’s Ireland. He also co-wrote Frommer’s Ireland Day by Day. Jack grew up listening to his great aunt's tales about living in Dublin during the Civil War. She once leaned out of a window during a late-night battle to tell the gunmen to keep the noise down—people were trying to sleep. Born and raised in England, Jack proposed to his Irish-American wife at a spa in County Kerry. She said yes. That spa gets a great review in this book.
