The history of these foods in their particular cultures and how they were first used, how they are produced and processed today, and their nutritional value, are all explained in simple text with accompanying photos and diagrams. "Trivia" boxes provide the reader with interesting, funny facts. Finally, each book has 2 simple recipes (with adult supervision indicated where necessary).

Fruit is a healthy, fresh, natural food that is easy and good to eat, as being beneficial to people's diets. The book shows the different types of food grown all over the world, and some of the dishes that can be made from fruits. You will also learn how fruit is grown and what products are made from fruits.

Provides information about various kinds of fruits, including how to grow them, history and legends about fruit, and recipes from around the world.

Gr 1-4Bright, colorful photographs and bold graphics characterize these attractive titles. Both present basic facts and history of particular foods, methods of production and preparation, uses around the world, and a few easy recipes. Fruit includes a discussion of legends and traditional customs associated with these plants. Anne Dowden's From Flower to Fruit (Ticknor and Fields, 1994) takes a more purely botanical approach to the subject and has watercolor and black-and-white drawings. Pasta features an interesting double-page spread, "An A to Z of Pasta Shapes," which would be helpful to any supermarket shopper.
